Participants will explore DBT's theoretical foundations, treatment structure, and adaptations made specifically for individuals struggling with addiction.
Learning Objectives:
- Explain the foundational principles of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), including the concept of dialectics and how tolerating opposing perspectives supports emotional and behavioral regulation.
- Describe the four core DBT skill areas-Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Emotion Regulation, and Interpersonal Effectiveness-and their relevance to substance use disorder treatment.
- Identify how clinical assessment informs skill selection, helping tailor DBT interventions to individual client needs and treatment goals.
- Apply DBT skills through case-based learning, using clinical scenarios to match interventions to client presentations and stages of recovery.
