Telling the Story Behind the Numbers: Arkansas Data in Action is a two-part virtual series (two 3-hour workshops) that helps prevention and coalition staff move from overwhelming or overly technical data presentations to clear, compelling stories grounded in Arkansas data.

In Part 1, participants get oriented to the key Arkansas data sources they already have, needs assessments, epi workgroup data, young adult reports, and local dashboards, and learn a simple framework for turning numbers into narrative. Using real screenshots and examples from Arkansas systems (curated in advance with the UALR Team), they practice pulling out the "so what" and drafting short, plain-language data story outlines they can use with coalitions, partners, and community members.

In Part 2, participants bring their own slides, handouts, or dashboards and work through live "before and after" makeovers. They learn a few practical design rules for clarity, apply them to their real materials, and build short 3-5 minute data story segments that show "what great looks like" and how to get there in their local context. The series is highly applied: every activity uses their own Arkansas tools and datasets so they leave with redesigned visuals, talking points, and concrete plans for when and where they will use their new data stories.
