This session highlights how innovation can strengthen prevention efforts by using data, community insight, and creative strategies to better meet emerging needs. Participants will learn how to select effective programming by assessing evidence, fit, feasibility, and long-term impact for the communities they serve. The session will include a 30-minute facilitated interview with Dr. Wyrick, followed by time for questions from the audience.

David Wyrick

David Wyrick, PhD is Founder and President of Prevention Strategies and Vice President for Regional Networks & Hubs at NC Innovation. He is a nationally recognized prevention scientist with extensive experience in applied research, program evaluation, and the development of evidence-based behavioral interventions addressing substance use and mental health. Dr. Wyrick spent much of his career at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where he most recently served as Chief Innovation Officer and remains a Professor of Public Health Education and Founding Director of the Institute to Promote Athlete Health & Wellness. He has authored more than 80 peer-reviewed publications and served as a principal or co-investigator on numerous National Institutes of Health-funded projects. Dr. Wyrick has led the design and scaling of innovative prevention programs used nationwide, including myPlaybook, an online health and wellness platform implemented by hundreds of colleges and universities.
