This session, with Dr. Jeff Milroy, explores practical empathic communication skills-like active listening, validating emotions, and responding with curiosity-to strengthen trust and connection in everyday interactions. Participants will learn how these tools help create a culture of care where people feel seen, supported, and empowered to collaborate and thrive. The session will include a 30 minute facilitated interview with Dr. Milroy, followed by time for questions from the audience.

Jeff Milroy
Dr. Jeff Milroy is an Associate Professor in the Department of Public Health Education at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and Director of the Center for Athlete Well-Being. A public health scientist with more than two decades of experience, Dr. Milroy focuses on the development and evaluation of theory-based, community-engaged interventions that promote well-being across diverse populations. His work emphasizes an ecological approach, examining how individual, relational, community, and structural factors shape behavior and health outcomes. Through the Center for Athlete Well-Being, Dr. Milroy collaborates with national and international organizations to deliver evidence-based programming, training, and evaluation that strengthen connection and care. His research and practice highlight the critical role of empathy, communication, and trust in fostering healthy relationships and supportive environments.
