Participants will receive a foundational overview of traumatic brain injury (TBI), including prevalence, common signs and symptoms, and the implications of unrecognized brain injury for professionals.

The course will introduce the Ohio Brain Injury Screening Tool (OBISSS), a free and accessible screening resource that can be integrated into prevention, treatment, and recovery practice to better identify individuals who may have a history of brain injury. Participants will also learn about the AHEAD curriculum, a free, evidence-informed educational program designed to increase awareness and understanding of brain injury and its functional impacts.

In addition, the course will highlight the practical application of screening and the AHEAD curriculum within the Women’s Re-entry Program at the Pulaski County Regional Detention Center, offering real-world examples of implementation in a justice-involved setting. Emphasis will be placed on strategies for incorporating brain injury-informed approaches into a variety of professional settings to improve outcomes and enhance professional practice.
