Working with people who are actively using substances or engaging in high-risk behavior is hard because there can be a barrier with honest communication. It may feel awkward to the worker and person receiving services to acknowledge and openly discuss the reality of their day-to-day behavior. Harm Reduction is a pragmatic engagement strategy to work with people where they are and help to move them towards their goals.
