The Arkansas Substance Use Prevention, Treatment, and Recovery Services Block Grant (SUBG) Prevention Program is dedicated to primary prevention and reducing substance misuse and its impact on individuals, families, and communities across the state. Funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), the program focuses on evidence-based prevention strategies and best practices to address the root causes of substance use and promote healthier lifestyles. MidSOUTH contracts with 13 regional catchment areas to provide prevention services to all 75 counties in the state.

Our Mission

To reduce the age of first use and prevent substance misuse by implementing community-driven strategies, education, and resources that build resilience and reduce risk factors for youth and adults in Arkansas.

What We Do

  • Community-Based Prevention – Partnering with local organizations, schools, and coalitions to implement prevention initiatives.
  • Education & Awareness – Providing training and outreach to increase public knowledge about substance misuse and its consequences.
  • Youth & Family Programs – Equipping young people and families with tools to make informed, healthy choices.
  • Data-Driven Strategies – Using research and statewide assessments to guide prevention efforts and policy recommendations.
  • Environmental Change – Establishing or changing written and unwritten community standards, codes, and attitudes, thereby influencing the incidence and prevalence of abuse of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs used in the general population.

Our Commitment

The Arkansas SUBG Prevention Program is committed to empowering communities, reducing substance-related harm, and fostering a culture of prevention. By collaborating with local, state, and national partners, we strive to create a safer, healthier Arkansas for all.
